Entrepreneur Accelerator Program
James Childs, Partner, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings & Founder, Entrepreneur Accelerator Program
The Birmingham Venture Club’s Entrepreneur Accelerator Program is our region’s premiere initiative for bringing high performing entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, professional service providers and national experts together for the purpose of accelerating high growth businesses through education, mentoring and networking.
The graduate ranks of our Entrepreneur Accelerator Program reads much like a high-growth business Who’s Who in Birmingham. Launched in 2004, it remains the most dynamic Leadership Development and Entrepreneurial Networking program in Central Alabama.
Through the program, participants build relationships with other high caliber entrepreneurs—in addition to funders, mentors and other proven leaders who help grow high quality businesses.
Registration Opening Fall 2015
The Entrepreneur Accelerator Program’s mission is “To equip the most promising entrepreneurs in the Birmingham area with the knowledge, access to resources and ongoing mentoring relationships that are essential to establishing and rapidly growing successful businesses.”
The program is designed to give our community’s most promising entrepreneurs the best possible opportunity to establish and build successful companies. Call it a “boot camp” for entrepreneurs, if you will. In addition to the educational training most boot camps provide, we pool our community’s resources—providing class members with access to the resources they need to build successful business; not to mention mentoring teams for growing their businesses after graduation from the program.
While the program is not limited by industry, enrollees typically come from high growth businesses in the Birmingham area. We define broadly “entrepreneurs” to include: Company founders, individuals planning start-up businesses, and individuals playing key roles in building successful businesses.
Curriculum and Schedule
Our kick-off event is typically held during the Venture Club’s September Membership Meeting, and the program usually concludes at the Club’s Annual Meeting in mid-December. Graduates of the Accelerator program are recognized before the Club’s membership in a graduation ceremony during the Annual Meeting.
The program’s weekly / bi-weekly meetings cover a broad range of topics, including:
- Market Validation
- Product or Service Development
- Preparing Business Plans
- Raising Capital
- Building Management Teams and Boards of Directors
- Sales, Marketing and Advertising
Our all-afternoon classes begin at noon with lunch, followed by: A period of specific expert instruction; a hands-on workshop; and a panel discussion by local and regional experts on the day’s subject matter. Each class concludes with cocktail networking, which ends around 6:00 p.m. Some stand-alone events may also be scheduled for class members throughout the year.
July 1- EAP Applications accepted
August TBD – Membership Mixer featuring information on the EAP Program.
August 31- Application deadline September

The program is limited to twelve (12) class members. Each nomination must clearly demonstrate the candidate’s strong potential to become a successful entrepreneur. Program tuition is $1,850 and must be paid before the first class begins.
Nominees commit to attend all of the scheduled classes and mentor dinners in order to enter the program. Failure to attend at least 80% of the ten to twelve scheduled classes and events will result in dismissal from the program.
“I became associated with the Birmingham Venture Club through the Entrepreneur Accelerator Program, a program so useful it changed my perspective of my business and how I see new opportunities. Since that time, I continue to participate for two specific reasons: I find great value in the business networking opportunities and the organizations focus on bringing speakers of great value. I actually participate in fewer organizations these day, but the value of the BVC makes it worth my time.”
